Time to raise block gas limit? Safe?

https://youtu.be/HE9bjaFRuVk?t=2244

/u/vbuterin recently stated that it could be safe to raise to 40M from todays 8M when they have solved some other problems. Being a complete noob techwise, why cant we raise it a little now, say to 10 or 12M?

Blocks has been getting fuller and fuller lately with the market picking up, but I dont see people talking about this and I dont know enough myself to have a good view of this.

Thanks

Is HitBTC no longer providing services to US citizens or is this another trick?

So now that many know about their KYC/AML scam, HitBTC is coming up with new ridiculous excuses to unlawfully withhold our money. A few days ago, I received an email from them stating that they no longer service American citizens while trying to withdraw my funds after my account was originally frozen pending their retarded KYC/AML verification.

Here is the email I received:

Dear trader,

We regret to inform you that at the present time we do not provide our services to US Citizens and customers whose primary residence is the US. This goes in accordance with the current regulatory framework for digital asset trading in the US.
If you are not a US Citizen or resident and believe this to be an error, please click here for our Support Center.

Thank you,

Bank has been frozen for 4 weeks because I sold BTC

I live in Canada and bank with Scotiabank. So I sold some BTC on localbitcoins.com, received payment through E-transfer. My bank flagged the transaction, disabled all my accounts and asked for proof of how I acquired the money. I gave them screenshots and an explanation of what occurred. It wasn't even a large sum of money either around 870$ CAD(647$ USD. They told me they consider Selling BTC for $ to be fraud because BTC isn't legal tender?? i asked if I would be charged with a crime and was told no. Haven't been given a time line on if or when I will get access to my accounts back or what will happen to the money I have in there.

BTC Dump: Pure Whale Manipulation

The BTC dump today was completely manufactured:

  • About 20-30 mins before the dump, a whale moved 25k BTC (worth $215M) to Coinbase: link
  • About an hour after the dump, a whale moved 14k BTC (worth $112M) from Coinbase to another wallet: link
  • 40 mins after that, a whale moved 11k BTC (worth $88M) from Coinbase to another wallet: link
  • 15 mins after that, a whale moved 10M USDT from one wallet to another: link

If you do a little math and follow the timeline, it's not hard to see that someone dumped 25k BTC for $215M and bought it back shortly after for $200M. In doing so, they pocketed $15M and walked away with the same amount of BTC as they started with.

Fuckers.

I sent 0.8 BTC to the wrong address. I got in contact with the owner.

So Binance has an auto fill feature for their withdrawal page. I meant to send my funds to my cold storage but instead it auto completed to 1JWES7kCXb4j7hjpLqSvoWZHCLiKV7Hr8c. By the time I confirmed transaction it was too late.

After digging through basically everything, I've determined this address is one that I've sent to before. It belongs to @cryptokings25 on Telegram, and he runs a paid signal group. I sent 0.01 to this address ~1 year ago.

I managed to get in contact with the guy, and he sends me this: https://i.imgur.com/r1XW6PH.png

At this point I know he's trying to scam me even more, and likely wants a full 1 BTC out of me. I tell him that he can just keep 0.2 for himself, and he says this: https://i.imgur.com/bDYQ6Gj.png

He then proceeds to send me an address *different* from the one I sent: https://i.imgur.com/0v6BkzS.png (14xUCFPQV48uEvcZwqcWt5nYNGBe644vSe)

At this point I don't even think he has control over the address I sent the 0.8 to. I ask him to sign a message with the address of the original wallet, and our dialogue goes something like this:

https://i.imgur.com/tKfflwj.png

https://i.imgur.com/QsPrtEH.png

At this point I know with certainty he doesn't have control over the address. May this be a lesson to you all to check the withdrawal address letter by letter because it's so easy to be careless, like I did, about withdrawing and misplacing funds.

Anyway, I can somewhat sleep comfy at night knowing this scumbag didn't get a single dollar out of me (assuming he actually doesn't have access to the address). I hope his ex-wife uses the money for something nice, maybe a vacation or something.

Teaching a layperson about ethereum

Does anyone have any good resources to help teach the average person about ethereum? I found in my interactions and trying to teach everyone they are really not that up to speed on it. I'm talking even the very basic stuff like addresses and sending transactions. Maybe someone has some nice diagrams or basic info that isn't too long of a read?

It seems most people just know about it from news articles but not the slightest clue how it even remotely works or how they can use it .

Community warning: CoinPayments.net

I am sick and tired of scammers in this space taking advantage of people and other coins and getting away with it.

In this post I want to highlight the practices of a well known company in this space who scammed a whole community out of nearly $10,000 USD and then did nothing with the money.

I'm talking about coinpayments.net and RaiBlocks (yes, now known as Nano).

Early in Jan, 2018, coinpayments.net were running promotions to have coins listed on their site. It already looked fairly shady - you could "purchase" votes to have your coin win, and they were then supposed to add it as a supported coin on their site.

RaiBlocks won this vote due to some very generous community members donating the money to bring it to the top vote:

https://np.reddit.com/r/RaiBlocks/comments/7rovwa/raiblocks_won_the_coinpaymentsnet_listing/

A little while later RaiBlocks had the rename, the BitGrail fiasco occurred, and a large drop in price happened. This caused a lot of the community at the time to leave or get distracted. A few people who stuck around (myself included) tried to follow up the outcome of the coinpayments.net listing with the Nano Core team, who promised to chase it up but never came back with a real answer as to what happened. I suspect they were either ignored by coinpayments or were told "no" and wanted to avoid drama in the community around this... Frankly, I can understand them wanting to steer clear of this kind of drama due to the history with BitGrail.

But, I for one am sick of it, and want to call it out for what it is.

I don't care if you are a avid Tron supporter, a BTC maximalist, or support Verge... This could happen to anyone, and I'm sick of it. I feel that we as a community shouldn't let things like this slide. People like you or me who were excited by the prospects of what they found donated to this company in good faith. This money has been taken with nothing to show for it. No announcement, no nothing, literally ZERO communication from CoinPayments.net.

I'd love to invite CoinPayments.net to respond if they have any reps that post on reddit.

Crypto's real use case for 2019/2020

I see people on here always complaining about how no one is using crypto currency as an actual currency. In my opinion though, most people are using crypto currency as a hedge for when the global economy fails. Keynesian economics worked great for the first generation who used it, however it has an expiry date, and that expiry date is rapidly approaching. In my country (Australia), our economy will almost definitely tank in the next 2 years, as our central bank has no choice but lower interest rates and therefore inflate our currency, or otherwise risk a housing market catastrophe. They are stuck in between a rock and a hard place, and I believe many other countries are as well. I won't go into depth about anymore dooms day predictions, but I still feel that crypto is starting to be used and a hedge by more and more people, who although don't know the technicalities and benefits of crypto yet, still ironically see it as a safer bet than their own dollar. I know I do.

Anyways, take my opinion with a grain of salt. I don't have a PhD in economics but that's just what I see! Would love to have a discussion about how the global economy is currently intertwined with crypto

Blocksize debate in Ethereum?

One thing I’ve been curious about is how you can believe in bitcoin and ethereum at the same time while they have wildly different views of block sizes.

Bitcoin core on one hand is firmly in the camp of small blocksize and keeping the ledger as small as possible.

Ethereum on the other hand, promises to be the world computer. Who is going to store all of this data? Who’s going to store all of the cat posts?

Tool to find the best Staking Coins - Find the coins with lowest risk and highest yield

Hi everyone,

overview of stakeable coins

we just created a tool that makes it easy for you to find the best stakeable coins (EOS, DASH, etc.). The goal of the project is to give an overview of the current situation of stakeable coins, their risk and potential yield.

We also classified the coins by:

  • diffeculty to maintain a node (cost of node, how complex is it to setup a node)
  • risk of the coin (is the staking system stable, reputation of coin, dev team)

Moreover you can find usefull information about the:

  • annual yield
  • stake ratio (how much of the marketcap is staked at the moment)
  • marketcap and price

Please let us know, if you would like further functionality and please also let us know if you would like us to add further coins.

Link to the tool: https://www.combatnerd.com/widgets/stakingtable/

You can contact us via: [hello@combatnerd.com](mailto:hello@combatnerd.com)

We are looking forward to your feedback :)

Finding owner of ethereum address

Hey,

This is a VERY big long shot. I was buying ether and the provider allowed me to scan a QR Code to automatically enter my wallet address. I did so, but the scanner must have been off by 1 character, and my ether got sent to the wrong address.

I've contacted support on the provider, but I thought I may as well post here. The address in question is 0xA651042FC47E0C047f941A940845A3C940447982

How To Withdraw TheDAO Funds On Ethereum Wallet?

Hello! I have originally obtained TheDAO tokens through a Wallet Contract. Now, the tokens are stored on the Wallet Contract, and I cannot find any way to convert them to Ether. I am certain that there is a method I could use to convert them, as the tokens still exist on the Ethereum platform and the refunds are still being given to the holders.

Please inform me how I could perform this withdrawal transaction. Thank you very much in advance.

Why would a company create an ERC token besides making their own economy?

I'm having a hard time understanding why a company would need to create it's own ERC token. I understand that Dapps like Choon have used ERC tokens to create their own economy, but what are other real-world examples of companies creating ERC tokens?

For example, why would Amazon want to create an ERC token when their "economy" is already based on fiat currency? (this is hypothetical)

Stop-limit, how to use

I understand "Limit" which is what I want to buy or sell at.
But I don't understand "Stop".

Example:
Current price is 8550.
I put in a bid (Limit) at 8500.
What is the point of a stop? Any difference between setting that at 8501 and 8540? What do you choose and why?

Binance locked the account

Folks,

A friend of mine was actively trading on Binance up until about 2 weeks ago. They blocked his account and his funds are still there. We've been unable to unblock his account or get his money back. If you're curious, our support tickets are: 1583049 1612275 1583049 1581378 Has any one had this problem before? Does any one have advice on how to get through to binance support? We've been trying to go through their live chat system. Unfortunately, the chat is closed immediately after we open it up. Currently, about 0.15-0.18 BTC is locked up.

Proof of live chat system closing: https://youtu.be/vOdQ3hmYN6M
